Updates to Campground Map data

Jan 3, 2021

As I mentioned previously, the campground data behind my Campground Map app hasn't been updated in a while. While there aren't changes to campgrounds very often, some of the other information related to them, such as their website address, do change from time to time. And occasionally a new campground comes along or an old one is sold or closed.

I've begun the herculean task of updating all the data behind the app. I've started by adding over 1600 public campgrounds in Canada. Next I updated every state park campground in the US (over 1700 of them), over 500 Corps of Engineers (COE) campgrounds, and 600 KOA and Jellystone campgrounds. I plan on continuing to update the data until I've verified and updated every campground in the US, and eventually all of North America. As you can imagine, this will take some time, but with the use of some automation, I hope to get through it in a reasonable amount of time. And I'm setting it up so that it will be easier to keep it updated going forward.

So be sure to check out the updated Campground Map app, and keep checking back as the data keeps getting updated and further improves. You can also subscribe to my mailing list to be notified of future updates.

If you come across any errors in the campgrounds shown on the map, or know of any that are missing, please let me know by either clicking the Report Issue link in the campground's info popup, or clicking the Add Campground button in the top right of the app. And if you have any suggestions for further improving the app, let me know, I'd love to hear it!

Happy (and safe) travels!
